Bonnie
2013 - 2025
On May 4th, we said goodbye to our beloved Bonnie.
For four unforgettable years, she was our shadow, our protector, our heart. At 12 years old, Bonnie had lived a life full of both hardship and deep love. She came to us after my dad passed—and through her, we found healing.
When Bonnie first joined our family, she was reactive and misunderstood. But with patience and love, she grew into the gentle, confident girl she was always meant to be. Over two and a half years, she blossomed through training, trust, and purpose.
Bonnie soon found her calling. She joined us in classrooms and community programs, her calm presence comforting every child she met. With the help of dedicated trainers, she became a certified therapy dog. Her heart shined brightest when she was giving back.
In 2023, Bonnie partnered with Grandma Lucy’s as an ambassador and officially became a Sponsored Reading Therapy Dog in 2024. That same year, we teamed up with Books Above the Clouds to launch something of our own: Books with Bonnie. With support from amazing friends like Natalie and Meg from Books Above The Clouds and Kenz from The Pyr-Paw shop, we brought joy, love for literacy, and support to families in our community. We celebrated her 12th birthday with one final Birthday Books with Bonnie surrounded by the people she adored.
Outside of her work, Bonnie was a snow-loving, mountain-hiking adventurer. She lived for the trail, rolled through snowbanks like a goofball, and made every trip unforgettable. Her spirit was wild, loving, and full of wonder.
This loss is one of the hardest. Bonnie wasn’t just our dog—she was our angel. Every truck key jingle, every hike, every bedtime routine… she was there. Always watching, always loving, always leading the way.
In her honor, we invite you to donate a book in Bonnie’s name to a Little Free Library. If you do, please tag us (@the_big_bon) so we can see her legacy live on. Bonnie’s life was built on service, joy, and love—and we’re committed to carrying that forward.
We’ll miss her forever.
Run free, Bonnie girl. You were the world to us.
